Moonlight, like other marketplaces, is required by US law to send out a 1099-K tax form. (This the same way that other platforms like Uber and Etsy report earnings.)

The 1099-K form reports all transactions between contractors and clients. We will provide you with a 1099-K if are a US person who earned more than $20,000 in gross unadjusted payments, with at least 200 invoice payments. If you do not meet all three of these criteria, you will not receive a 1099-K.ย

Note that the 1099-K reports the gross transaction volume. This means that it shows the sum of what clients paid, including the Moonlight fee. You should deduct Moonlight's fees from the reported amount when calculating taxes.

We will provide you with a 1099-Misc if you received at least $600 in non-transaction payments (i.e. referrals or promotions).
