How Moonlight Fees Work (for Companies)

Moonlight is free to join and post jobs. Fees apply only once work begins.

Written by Damon Jackman

Free to Start

  • No cost to post jobs: Companies can create profiles, post roles, and browse developers at no charge.

  • No subscription fees: There are no monthly or upfront costs to use Moonlight.

Contract & Fractional Work

  • 15% platform fee: Applied to each invoice once work begins.

  • Example: If a developer logs 10 hours at $100/hour, the invoice is $1,000. Moonlight’s fee is 15% ($150).

  • Transparency: The developer sets their hourly rate; you see the total cost (developer pay + Moonlight fee) when reviewing invoices.

Full-Time Hires

  • One-time success fee: If you convert a developer to a full-time employee, Moonlight charges a success fee equal to four months of the developer’s gross monthly salary at the point of hire.

  • Details: See Hiring Full-Time Employees for more information.

Why Fees Exist

  • Platform operations: Fees fund developer vetting, fraud protection, and platform improvements.

  • Fairness: Aligns Moonlight’s success with successful projects and hires.

  • Trust: Ensures both companies and developers stay on-platform for payments, keeping the community safe.
