Intellectual Property (IP) Ownership
Your contract governs IP: Moonlight does not provide contracts. You should use your own agreement with the developer to define IP ownership.
Default expectation: In most client–contractor relationships, work created for you under contract is assigned to your company once paid.
Clarity helps: Spell out in your contract what deliverables are included, when ownership transfers, and whether any third-party or open-source code is used.
Confidentiality
Covered by Moonlight Terms: All users agree to Moonlight’s Terms of Service, which prohibit sharing confidential information improperly.
Additional agreements: Companies often use NDAs or confidentiality clauses in their own contracts with developers.
Best practice: Share sensitive materials only with developers you’ve chosen to work with, and keep records of what’s provided.
Protecting Your Business
Limit access: Only give developers the systems, repos, or data they need to complete the work.
Document permissions: Track who has access and revoke it when a project ends.
Ask about prior work: Confirm that developers will not include code or assets they don’t have rights to.
